  held to begin. It falls on March 25\, exactly nine months before Christ
 mas\, and in the older reckoning that date was also taken as the day of 
 creation and of the crucifixion\, so that the year's beginning\, its red
 emption and its consummation were gathered on one date. In England March
  25\, Lady Day\, was the civil new year until 1752 and remains a quarter
