Jerrold Sadock

Jerrold Sadock is an American linguist and the Glen A. Lloyd Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Linguistics and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago, where he earned his BA in chemistry in 1965 and his MA and PhD in linguistics in 1967 and 1969. He founded the grammatical theory known as Autolexical Syntax, or Automodular Grammar, which models a sentence through multiple parallel grammatical representations, and his research also addresses noun incorporation, morphology, and pragmatics, with particular expertise in West Greenlandic and Yiddish; his books include Toward a Linguistic Theory of Speech Acts in 1974, Autolexical Syntax in 1991, A Grammar of Kalaallisut in 2003, and The Modular Architecture of Grammar in 2012. A festschrift in his honor was published in 2011.
