Adolf Otto Reinhold Windaus (1876-1959) was a German chemist who won the 1928 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on the constitution of sterols and their connection to vitamins, research that helped clarify the chemistry behind vitamin D. He later served as doctoral advisor to Adolf Butenandt, who won his own Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1939.
