Friedrich Karl Rudolf Bergius (1884-1949) was a German chemist who developed the Bergius process for producing synthetic fuel from coal, work recognized with a share of a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for contributions to high-pressure chemical methods. After the Second World War his wartime work with IG Farben brought his German citizenship into question, and he emigrated to Argentina, where he advised the country's Ministry of Industry.
