Leopold Ruzicka (1887-1976) was a Croatian-Swiss chemist who shared the 1939 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on polymethylenes and higher terpenes, including the first chemical synthesis of male sex hormones. He spent most of his career in Switzerland and received numerous honorary doctorates and memberships in chemical and scientific societies.
