Willis Lamb

Willis Eugene Lamb was an American physicist. He precisely measured a small shift in the energy levels of the hydrogen atom, since known as the Lamb shift, a result that the existing theory could not explain and that helped drive the development of quantum electrodynamics. He shared the 1955 Nobel Prize in Physics with Polykarp Kusch for his discoveries concerning the fine structure of the hydrogen spectrum.
