Mildred Dresselhaus

Mildred Spiewak Dresselhaus was an American physicist, materials scientist and nanotechnologist who lived from November 11, 1930 to February 20, 2017, an Institute Professor and professor of physics and electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Known as the Queen of Carbon Science for her pioneering work on carbon nanotubes and related materials, she also served as president of the American Physical Society and chair of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She received the 2012 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Medal of Science, the Enrico Fermi Award and the Vannevar Bush Award.
