Charles Huggins

Charles Brenton Huggins was a Canadian-American surgeon and physiologist, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, whose research focused on how sex hormones influence the prostate gland. His discovery that hormonal treatments could be used to control prostate cancer led to the 1966 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, shared with fellow cancer researcher Peyton Rous, only the second Nobel Prize ever awarded for cancer treatment or research. He is also known for research into hormonal influences on breast cancer.
