Schack August Steenberg Krogh was a Danish physiologist who worked in zoophysiology at the University of Copenhagen from 1916 to 1945. He made fundamental discoveries about how blood flow through the capillaries of skeletal muscle is regulated according to the muscle level of activity, a finding now known as Krogh principle. He received the 1920 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the mechanism regulating capillaries in skeletal muscle. Krogh also helped establish what became the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk.
