David Hunter Hubel was an American-Canadian neurophysiologist known for his research into the structure and function of the visual cortex. Working jointly with Torsten Wiesel over more than two decades, he studied how information is processed in the visual system, research recognized with the 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which he shared with Wiesel and Roger W. Sperry. In 1978 Hubel and Wiesel jointly received the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize from Columbia University.
