Sir John Warcup Cornforth was an Australian born British chemist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1975 for his work on the stereochemistry of enzyme catalyzed reactions. He became the only Nobel laureate born in the Australian state of New South Wales, and he carried out much of his later research despite being profoundly deaf from an early age.
