Stanley Peters

Stanley Peters is a linguist and director emeritus of the Center for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University, where he is also professor emeritus of linguistics and helped create the interdisciplinary Symbolic Systems undergraduate program. He studied mathematics as an undergraduate before pursuing graduate work in linguistics with Noam Chomsky at MIT, later taught at the University of Texas at Austin, and after periods at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences moved to Stanford, where his work led to the founding of the Center for the Study of Language and Information. His research addresses the logical analysis of meaning in natural language and computational linguistics, and he provides advising in applied logic, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and natural language processing within the Symbolic Systems program.
