Celâl Şengör

Ali Mehmet Celal Sengor is a Turkish geologist, retired from the Department of Geological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, who specializes in the tectonics of Turkey and Asia. He holds memberships in numerous academies, including the American Philosophical Society, Academia Europaea and the United States National Academy of Sciences, and his honors include the Bigsby Medal in 1999, the Gustav Steinmann Medal in 2010 and the Arthur Holmes Medal in 2018. Born in Istanbul, he graduated from Robert College before earning his degrees at the State University of New York at Albany.
