Manuel Berberian, born October 27, 1945, in Tehran to an Armenian immigrant family, is an Iranian-Armenian earth scientist specializing in earthquake seismology and continental tectonics across Southwest Asia. He earned his doctorate from the University of Cambridge's Earth Science Department in 1981, becoming the first Armenian and second Iranian graduate of the program, and has spent more than four decades studying seismic activity in the region. The Geological Society of America recognized his career in 2013, and a fossil fish species was named in his honor in 2008. He has lived in the United States with his family since 1990.
