Richard Martin Willstatter (1872-1942) was a German organic chemist whose research into the structure of plant pigments, including chlorophyll, won him the 1915 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. His work established much of the modern understanding of how chlorophyll is built and how it functions in plants.
