Bidyendu Mohan Deb

Bidyendu Mohan Deb (born 1942) is an Indian theoretical chemist and chemical physicist known for his work on electron density theory and density functional theory. He introduced the force concept in chemistry, describing chemical bonding and reactivity in terms of forces acting on nuclei, and, with collaborator Prasanta Chattaraj, developed the Deb-Chattaraj generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation. He has held faculty positions at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, and Panjab University, received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 1981, and is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy and The World Academy of Sciences.
