Walter Kohn was an Austrian American theoretical physicist and theoretical chemist. He was awarded the 1998 Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly with John Pople for developing density functional theory, a method for describing the electronic structure of molecules and materials that reshaped computational chemistry.
