Darleane Christian Hoffman (November 8, 1926 to September 4, 2025) was an American nuclear chemist. Working at Los Alamos National Laboratory and later at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California, Berkeley, she studied the chemical properties of the heaviest known elements, and was among the researchers who confirmed the existence and chemical behavior of seaborgium, element 106. Hoffman received the National Medal of Science in 1997 and was named one of the fifty most important women in science by Discover magazine in 2002, recognition of a career spent extending chemistry to the far edge of the periodic table.
