Henry Fox Talbot

William Henry Fox Talbot was an English scientist, inventor and photography pioneer who invented the salted paper and calotype processes, precursors to the photographic processes of the later nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His work in the 1840s on photomechanical reproduction led to the photoglyphic engraving process, a precursor of photogravure, and he held a patent that shaped the early commercial development of photography in Britain. He also published The Pencil of Nature (1844 to 1846), illustrated with original salted paper prints from his own calotype negatives.
