Armand Paul Alivisatos is an American chemist born November 12, 1959, president of the University of Chicago since September 1, 2021. He is an internationally recognized authority on nanochemistry in the synthesis of semiconductor quantum dots, having pioneered techniques for controlling nanocrystal growth into complex two-dimensional shapes rather than simple spheres, with applications in biomedical diagnostics, photovoltaic cells and LED materials. He shared the 2024 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience with Robert Langer and Chad Mirkin, and he also received the 2011 Linus Pauling Medal, the 2012 Wolf Prize in Chemistry, the 2014 National Medal of Science, the 2021 Priestley Medal and the 2024 Enrico Fermi Award.
