Robert Floyd Curl Jr. was an American chemist who was a professor of chemistry at Rice University. He was awarded the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of the nanomaterial buckminsterfullerene, and the wider fullerene class of materials, together with Richard Smalley of Rice University and Harold Kroto of the University of Sussex.
