Theodore William Richards (1868-1928) was an American physical chemist and the first American scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, awarded in 1914 for his exact determinations of the atomic weights of a large number of chemical elements. His painstaking measurements helped establish the reliability of atomic weight data used throughout chemistry.
