William Sefton Fyfe

William Sefton Fyfe was a New Zealand born geologist and geochemist, born June 4, 1927, in Ashburton, New Zealand, who died November 11, 2013, in London, Ontario, Canada, and who was professor emeritus in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Western Ontario, serving as Dean of Science there from 1986 to 1990 after earlier positions at UCLA, UC Berkeley, Imperial College London, and the University of Manchester. Widely regarded as among the world most eminent geochemists, he earned his BSc, MSc, and PhD from the University of Otago. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1969, received the Logan Medal of the Geological Association of Canada in 1981, the Willet G. Miller Medal of the Royal Society of Canada in 1985, was made a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1989, received the Arthur L. Day Medal in 1990, the Roebling Medal in 1995, and the Wollaston Medal in 2000; asteroid 15846 Billfyfe is named in his honor.
