Barbara Sherwood Lollar is a Canadian geochemist and hydrogeologist born February 19, 1963, in Kingston, Ontario, who has worked in the department of earth sciences at the University of Toronto since 1992. Her research uses stable isotopic analysis of groundwater and subsurface microbiology to study ancient groundwater and deep subsurface environments, including the discovery of billion year old water and the chemical cycles of hydrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, and methane far below the surface of Earth. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2019 and the Royal Society of Canada in 2004, was made a Companion of the Order of Canada in 2016, and received the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal in 2019 and the Wollaston Medal in 2025.
