Wilfred Hudleston Hudleston

Wilfred Hudleston Hudleston, born Wilfred Hudleston Simpson, was an English geologist, ornithologist and paleontologist born June 2, 1828, in York, England, who died January 29, 1909, at West Holme, near Wareham, Dorset, England, and who produced an extensive monograph on Jurassic gastropods between 1887 and 1896 running to 514 pages of text and 44 plates across nine parts, alongside research on Corallian rocks and inferior oolite formations and dredging expeditions in the English Channel to collect mollusks. He served as secretary of the Geologists Association from 1874 to 1877 and its president from 1881 to 1883, secretary of the Geological Society of London from 1886 to 1890 and its president from 1892 to 1894, honorary curator of mineralogy at the Yorkshire Museum from 1877 to 1907, and founded the Dove Marine Laboratory in 1906. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1884, received the Wollaston Medal in 1897, and was awarded a gold medal by the British Ornithologists Union in 1908.
