Luna B. Leopold

Luna B. Leopold was an American hydrologist and geomorphologist who lived from 1915 to 2006, the son of conservationist Aldo Leopold, who became Chief Hydrologist of the United States Geological Survey and later a professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He co-authored the influential textbook Fluvial Processes in Geomorphology and was a leading advocate for incorporating geologic, geographic and climatic understanding into water management policy alongside economic and political considerations. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1967 and the American Philosophical Society in 1972, and received the National Medal of Science in 1991. He received the Penrose Medal in 1994.
