Benjamin Neeve Peach, known as Ben Peach, was a British geologist born September 6, 1842, in Gorran Haven, Cornwall, England, who died January 29, 1926, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and who, together with John Horne, resolved the long-running Highlands Controversy over the structure of Scotland Northwest Highlands, publishing their landmark account The Geological Structure of the North-West Highlands of Scotland in 1907 after more than thirty years mapping complicated Scottish districts as a district surveyor with the Geological Survey of Scotland. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1881, won the Neill Prize between 1883 and 1886, received the Wollaston Donation Fund in 1887, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1892, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Edinburgh in 1903, served as vice president of the Royal Society of Edinburgh from 1912 to 1917 and president of the Geological Society of Glasgow from 1905 to 1908, and received the Wollaston Medal in 1921.
