John T. Andrews is a British-American Quaternary glaciologist, born in 1937, professor emeritus at the University of Colorado Boulder own Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research, hired by the Canadian government in 1961 for research on Baffin Island before joining the Boulder faculty in 1968. His fieldwork reshaped scientific understanding of the Pleistocene Laurentide Ice Sheet in North America, contributing reconstructions of sea level change and ice sheet modeling and helping establish that Heinrich events reflect partial collapses of the Laurentide Ice Sheet linked to abrupt climate change. He received the Kirk Bryan Award in 1973, was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union in 2006 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2011, and his work has been cited more than thirty thousand times. He received the Penrose Medal in 2016.
