Peter Grunberg

Peter Andreas Grunberg was a German physicist who lived from 1939 to 2018, recognized for his 1988 discovery, with Albert Fert, of giant magnetoresistance, a breakthrough that brought about gigabyte hard disk drives. He received the German Future Prize in 1998, the Japan Prize in 2007, the European Inventor Award in 2006 and the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2007, shared with Fert. He received the Wolf Prize in Physics in 2006/2007.
