Eric J. Essene

Eric J. Essene was an American geologist who lived from 1939 to 2011 and spent his career at the University of Michigan after joining its faculty in 1970, following postdoctoral work at Cambridge University and the Australian National University, a leader in developing geothermobarometry as a tool for understanding rock assemblages in high grade metamorphic suites and the evolution of continental crust. The mineral esseneite was named in his honor. He received the Penrose Medal in 2010.
