Nani Gopal Majumdar

Nani Gopal Majumdar (1897-1938) was a Bengali archaeologist who explored and documented sites of the Indus Valley Civilisation in what is now Sindh, Pakistan. He is credited with discovering sixty-two Indus Valley sites, including Chanhudaro, and his fieldwork showed that the lower Indus valley had been inhabited during the early Indus period. Between 1930 and 1931 he discovered more than thirty-two prehistoric sites while traveling through the Kirthar Mountains, publishing his findings in the 1934 book Exploration in Sind. His final expedition in 1938 uncovered further Chalcolithic-period sites shortly before his death that November.
