Frederick D. Rossini

Chemistry

Frederick D. Rossini (1899-1990) was an American physical chemist known for his work in chemical thermodynamics, who spent 1928 to 1950 at the National Bureau of Standards, 1950 to 1960 at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, and from 1960 to 1967 served as dean of the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame. His 1950 textbook Chemical Thermodynamics became an influential reference in the field, and he received the National Medal of Science in 1977 for his contributions to basic reference knowledge in chemical thermodynamics.
