Ryoji Noyori is a Japanese chemist who shared half of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with William S. Knowles for developing asymmetric hydrogenation methods using rhodium and ruthenium catalysts based on the BINAP ligand, methods that enabled commercial production of pharmaceuticals such as naproxen with high purity.
