Girindrasekhar Bose was an early 20th century Indian psychoanalyst and the first president, from 1922 to 1953, of the Indian Psychoanalytic Society. He carried on a twenty year dialogue with Sigmund Freud and disputed the specifics of Freud's Oedipus complex theory, and he started the first general hospital psychiatry unit in Asia at R.G. Kar Medical College in Calcutta in 1933.
