Robert Samuel Langer Jr. is an American chemical and biomedical engineer born August 29, 1948, an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked with Judah Folkman at Boston Children Hospital to isolate the first angiogenesis inhibitor, pioneered polymer systems to encapsulate therapeutic molecules for controlled drug delivery, and is regarded as a founder of tissue engineering in regenerative medicine. He shared the 2024 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience with Paul Alivisatos and Chad Mirkin, and he also received the 2002 Charles Stark Draper Prize, the 2006 National Medal of Science, the 2013 Wolf Prize in Chemistry, the 2014 Kyoto Prize, the 2014 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences and the 2015 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering; he holds more than 1,400 patents.
