Terry Ann Plank is an American geochemist and volcanologist born in 1963 in Wilmington, Delaware, who is a professor of earth science at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Her research uses the chemistry of magma and volcanic minerals to determine how and when magma forms and moves, established links between the subduction of ocean sediment and volcanism at arc volcanoes, and developed the GLOSS framework for the composition of globally subducting sediment, updated to GLOSS-II in 2014; she also founded the AVERT project for real time volcanic monitoring. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2012, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2013, and received the Wollaston Medal in 2018.
