Mihir Kumar Bose was an Indian geologist and professor who specialized in igneous petrology, with particular expertise in the study of alkaline rocks and anorthosites in India. His research on magmatic differentiation helped widen understanding of how ultramafic rocks in the Singhbhum region of India came to differ from one another. He authored the textbook Igneous Petrology and held fellowships with major Indian scientific academies. In 1976 he received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, one of India's highest science honors, for his contributions to earth, atmosphere, ocean, and planetary sciences.
