Karl Heinrich Ferdinand Rosenbusch, generally known as Harry Rosenbusch, was a German petrographer born June 24, 1836, in Einbeck, Germany, who died January 20, 1914, in Heidelberg, Germany, and who founded the Mineralogisches-geologisches Institut at Heidelberg University and formulated what became known as Rosenbusch law of mineral crystallization order, describing how more basic minerals precede less basic ones as magma cools. He taught at Heidelberg University from 1877 to 1908, publishing the influential Mikroskopische Physiographie der petrographisch wichtigen Mineralien in 1873 and Elemente der Gesteinslehre in 1898, with a fourth two-volume edition of the Mikroskopische Physiographie appearing in 1909.
