Aubrey Strahan

Sir Aubrey Strahan was a British geologist born April 20, 1852, in London, England, who died April 3, 1928, in Fairfield, Goring, England, and who is best known for his extensive surveys of the South Wales coalfield alongside geological mapping across multiple regions of Britain noted for the high quality of its work; he was employed by the Geological Survey from 1875 onward. He served as director of the Geological Survey of Great Britain from 1914 to 1920, president of the Geological Society of London in 1913 and 1914, and president of the geology section of the British Association in 1904. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1903, was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and received the Wollaston Medal in 1919.
