Henry Alexander Miers

Sir Henry Alexander Miers was a British mineralogist and crystallographer born May 25, 1858, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who died December 10, 1942, and who studied minerals and crystal growth, publishing Mineralogy: An Introduction to the Scientific Study of Minerals in 1902. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Oxford, and served as professor of crystallography and vice-chancellor of the Victoria University of Manchester from 1915 to 1926, and as president of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society from 1919 to 1921. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1896, was knighted, and received the Wollaston Medal in 1934.
