Henry Woods

Henry Woods was an English palaeontologist born December 18, 1868, in Cottenham, England, who died April 4, 1952, in Meldreth, England, and who served as curator of the Woodwardian Museum at Cambridge University, as demonstrator in palaeobotany from 1892 to 1899 and in palaeozoology from 1894 to 1899, and as lecturer in palaeontology at Cambridge from 1899 to 1934, continuing afterward as the palaeontology department librarian into his eighties. He specialized in invertebrate palaeontology and authored influential textbooks including Palaeontology, Invertebrate, along with works on trilobites and eurypterids. He received the Sedgwick Prize in 1895, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1916, received the Lyell Medal in 1918, and received the Wollaston Medal in 1940.
