Henry Bolingbroke Woodward, known as Henry Woodward, was an English geologist and paleontologist born November 24, 1832, in Norwich, England, who died September 6, 1921, in Bushey, England, and who specialized in invertebrate paleontology, particularly fossil crustaceans and other arthropods, publishing monographs on British fossil crustacea between 1866 and 1878 and on Carboniferous trilobites between 1883 and 1884. He joined the geological department of the British Museum as an assistant in 1858, became keeper of that department in 1880, edited the Geological Magazine from 1864, serving as sole editor from July 1865 until the end of 1918, and served as president of the Geological Society of London from 1894 to 1896 and president of the Palaeontographical Society from 1895 until his death. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1873, received an honorary LL.D. from St Andrews in 1878, won the Murchison Medal in 1884, and received the Wollaston Medal in 1906.
