Stephen Wolfram

Stephen Wolfram is a British-American computer scientist, physicist and businessman known for creating the Mathematica computational software system and the Wolfram Alpha computational knowledge engine. He earned a PhD in theoretical physics from the California Institute of Technology at age twenty before turning to computational science, and in his 2002 book A New Kind of Science he argued that simple computational rules, such as cellular automata, can generate the complexity observed throughout nature.
