Condensed Matter Physics

This group collects the Physics subcategory's members whose work concerns matter in its solid and liquid bulk phases: superconductivity, semiconductors, magnetism, crystallography and the collective behavior of large numbers of atoms in a solid, including the physicists behind the transistor, the laser diode and giant magnetoresistance. It is kept apart from Atomic, Molecular And Optical Physics, whose members study individual atoms, molecules and light rather than bulk collective matter, and from Thermodynamics And Statistical Mechanics, whose members study heat and statistical behavior as a general framework rather than a specific material phase.
