Ananda Mohan Chakrabarty was an Indian American microbiologist noted for his work in directed evolution and for developing, while at General Electric, a genetically engineered organism using plasmid transfer. The patent dispute over that organism led to the landmark United States Supreme Court case Diamond v. Chakrabarty.
