Olga Ivanovna Skorokhodova was a Soviet scientist, therapist, teacher and writer who lost her sight and hearing at age five after contracting meningitis. She worked at the Institute for the Handicapped of the USSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences as the world's only deafblind researcher of her time, studying the psychology and education of deafblind children from her own lived experience. She produced a body of scientific work on teaching methods for deafblind children that remains a founding contribution to the field of defectology.
