Patrick Soon-Shiong is a South African-born American surgeon, researcher and biotechnology entrepreneur. He invented Abraxane, a nanoparticle-based chemotherapy drug used to treat lung, breast and pancreatic cancer, drawing on his surgical and pharmacological research into targeted drug delivery. That work in reformulating cancer treatment established him as a significant figure in translational cancer research and biotechnology. He has also built a career as a businessman, including ownership of the Los Angeles Times since 2018.
