Madhusudan Gupta was an Indian physician and anatomist who in 1836 became the first Indian to publicly dissect a human cadaver, at Calcutta Medical College, defying a longstanding religious taboo against the practice. His demonstration is regarded as a landmark moment in the introduction of Western-style anatomical research and surgical training in India.
