Ibn Ghazi al-Miknasi

Ibn Ghazi al-Miknasi, full name Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad Ibn Ghazi al-Uthmani al-Miknasi, was a Maghrebi scholar who lived from 1437 to 1513. Born in Meknes to a family of the Banu Uthman clan of the Berber Kutama tribe, he spent most of his life in Fez. Alongside his work in history, Islamic law and Arabic philology, he made a real contribution to mathematics: his commentary on Ibn al-Banna's arithmetic treatise Munyat al-hussab, and his own follow-up treatise Bughyat al-tulab fi sharh munyat al-hussab, included sections on arithmetic and algebraic methods. He also wrote a three volume history of Meknes and Kulliyat, a work on legal questions and judgments in the Maliki school of Islamic law.
