John C. Baez, born in 1961, is an American mathematical physicist and professor of mathematics at the University of California, Riverside. His research spans spin foams in loop quantum gravity, the application of higher category theory to physics, and applied category theory including network theory. He is also known for popular mathematical exposition through his column This Week's Finds in Mathematical Physics and his blog Azimuth, and he won the 2013 Levi L. Conant Prize for an expository paper on grand unified theories.
